Binge Eating Disorder(BED) and Emotional Eating

Binge eating disorder is the most common eating disorder in the United States. It affects more than eight million men and women and accounts for three times the number of those diagnosed with anorexia and bulimia together. Binge eating disorder is a complex disorder with many symptoms, associated complications, causes and risk factors. An estimated 3.5% of American women and 2% of American men have binge eating disorder.

Causes and risk factors

While the exact causes are unknown, several factors are thought to play a part in binge eating disorder, including:

·         biological/genetic

·         psychological

·         sociocultural

Professionals are also still trying to determine what risk factors could potentially result in developing binge eating disorder. However, they may include:

·         dieting

·         psychological factors

My goal is to help you tackle the obstacles that are getting in the way of you having a successful and satisfying relationship with food. I will teach you practical skills to overcoming overeating and binge eating, as well as explore the underlying roots of what is feeding your relationship with food. My individual sessions as well a group support sessions offer you a place to
